Sorry about the posting lull. I just returned from London and I’m swimming against the current to catch up. Joobili was a big hit with the tourism boards at the World Travel Market, but I’ll give the juicy details in a forthcoming post. On Tuesday night I attended the first Travel Blog Camp. There were about 80 bloggers and and PR professionals (more about that here) gathered to discuss/debate the future of travel blogging. The discussion about blogging was interesting and a lot of other bloggers have given some great summaries. My only complaint/suggestion was that I missed the ”travel” in the Travel Blog Camp. I was looking for “how blogging is different with travel content” and none of the speakers really addressed this. Maybe there isn’t a difference, maybe content is content. What do you think…is travel blogging different than other blogging? Even though I missed the travel angle I’m still very glad I went and I did come away with some good ideas. It was also nice to swap stories with fellow travel entrepreneurs like Ben and Anna, and meet travel bloggers like Kevin May, Karen Bryan, and our gracious host, Darren Cronian.
Travel Blog Camp 2008

I could not make it to the blog camp, but your question is a good one. I’m probably in the “content is content” camp whether it is travel or gardening or whatever….Then again, every industry has their quirks.

Hi
There must have been so many people there that I didn’t get a chance to meet. Maybe next time there’ll be more chatting time worked into the get together.
I’ve been writing a travel industry blog for nearly two years now and come at it from the perspective of my experience in the industry.
I think travel blogging is fairly unique in that we are more likely to beat ourselves up about taking leads and info from PR. It doesn’t compromise our editorial intregrity, press releases and such just help us stay on the pulse of a vast industry. I think we give ourselves a harder time than bloggers on other subjects.
Let me know what you think of points raised in my summary of the night

[...] Information appearing here soon.Around this time last year I had this crazy idea about organising an informal blog camp style event in London during World Travel Market. Last year’s event took place at the Doggett’s Riverside Bars, with views of the Thames and St Paul’s Cathedral. They were between up to 80 bloggers, journalists, and travel industry people to learn more about blogging and social media. We had three speakers; Alex Bainbridge, Karen Bryan and Kevin May to talk about their experiences. Like any inaugural event they are things that can be improved this year, but in general they were some great feedback. » Heather from On Her Travels » Caitlin from Roaming Tales » Guido from Happy Hotelier » Alex from Musings on travel ecommerce » Anthony from Mr and Mrs Smith » Ben from Trailbeater » Kelly from Sandwagon » Molly from STA Travelbuzz » Kevin from Travolution » Matt from Matt Parsons blog » Karen from Europe a la Carte » Jarad from Joobili [...]
