I have a good excuse for my blogging hiatus. It’s called Carnival in Venice! I hate trying to list my favorite anything because “favorite” is relative to whatever mood I’m in, but it’s safe to say Venice is among my favorite cities. Here’s why: when I describe a city to someone who’s never been there I usually say ‘it’s kinda like [insert city] but the [insert noun] is different/better.’ Try doing that with Venice. You can’t. There’s nothing to compare.
This was my fourth trip to Venice and my first Carnival. In typically Joobili fashion, visiting Venice during Carnival was an entirely different experience. Yes it was crowded, some were tourists, but I’d say most were Italians. And the city didn’t feel like a museum, rather it was alive and ready to celebrate. The Carnival was also was full of families with kids as opposed to drunk college students (at least during the day/evening). All in all it was a classic Joobili experience that I wholeheartedly recommend.
PS: Venice is actually where this whole Carnival thing got started. If you’re interested in the history check out my guest post here).
